With todays technology, DJ's with laptops are becoming a more and more regular occurrence.
And why not? With the speed of laptops and companies such as Denon bringing out state of the art MIDI controllers, the DJ record boxes are becoming a thing of the past.
MIDI controllers have been around since the dawn of digital music, they have been used within recording studios and greatly speed up the process of controlling music. With MIDI controllers coming to the DJ industry the need to carry boxes and boxes of CD's has been all but disregarded. No more 4, 5, 6 trips to the car for the CD's you will almost never play, make way for the hard drive the size of your wallet and a laptop with more processing power than the computers who put man on the moon.
MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) is a control language that allows your PC software such as Virtual DJ to receive commands from controllers, allowing you to act more professional within mixing and eliminating the need for a mouse.
Also within a lot of MIDI controllers they now have sound cards, giving you the ability to use your own mixer and/or even cue tracks through headphones. The need for amateur mini jack output of the laptop is gone. Now DJ's can run in higher bit rates, giving a better sound quality (providing the music files are good) than CD's themselves!
Digital DJ is the way forward. With Native Instruments pushing the boundaries with the new Traktor Skratch Pro 2 software and sound cards we thought we would send a special DIGI DJ email showing just whats on offer to the new, the old and the club DJ for the digital world.
